Would You Like Fries With That? (2020)

'Would You Like Fries With That?' (2020) is an art piece that serves as a commentary on modern production and hyperconsumption, specifically focusing on the fast-food industry. The artwork consists of 14 used McDonald's fry boxes arranged in a cyclical composition, devoid of a clear beginning or end. This arrangement symbolizes the never-ending cycle of production and consumption in contemporary society.

The artist behind the piece draws from their personal experience working at McDonald's, where they used the job as a means to finance their art practice. Through this work, they aim to shed light on the often unseen and underappreciated processes that take place behind the scenes in the fast-food industry. The relationship between the employee and the consumer is a central theme explored in the artwork, as the artist seeks to juxtapose the highly branded and polished image projected by the company with the raw and unfiltered aspects that exist beneath the surface.

In 'Would You like Fries With That?' The artist deliberately highlights elements of corporate waste, such as intricate details depicting QR codes, WRIN numbers, and off-centered printing registrations. By emphasizing these seemingly mundane and overlooked aspects of the company, the artwork recontextualizes them as relics or artifacts, thereby reclaiming their significance. This approach creates a sense of honest transparency that challenges the mystique surrounding the consumer's experience, inviting viewers to consider the broader implications of hyperconsumption and the impact of corporate practices on our society.
